Der kanadische Komponist und Fotograf Michael Matthews sieht seine abstrakte Fotokunst als etwas, das dem Konzept und der Natur einer Musikpartitur in seiner grafischen und symbolischen Darstellung ähnelt. Seine visuellen Kompositionen entstehen wie seine musikalischen, aus der Entwicklung von Linien, Formen, Dichte und Farben.

Die texanischen Künstler Conan und Danville Chadbourne schaffen wie Matthews Werke, die sich nicht direkt mit der Musik befassen, sondern Parallelen zur Struktur und Ästhetik musikalischer Formen aufweisen. Danville Chadbourne zeigt Gemälde auf Holz, die als ursprüngliche, esoterische Diagramme abstraker Kräfte fungieren, oft in konzentrischer und organischer Struktur, die dem Holz bereits innewohnt und die der Künstler in grafische Strukturen verwandelt.

Mit dem Hintergrund der Physik und Mathematik fertigt Conan Chadbourne Zeichnungen, die den Begriff der aufkommenden Phänomene und die Art und Weise erforschen, wie sich komplexe Formen aus der Kombination und Interaktion einfacher Elemente entwickeln. Wie in der Musik, sind diese Bilder aus Schichten sich wiederholender Muster und Texturen aufgebaut, die sich harmonisch oder dissonant zu einer komplexen, organischen Struktur zusammenfügen, die aus der Interaktion verschiedener Teile hervorgeht.

The Canadian composer and photographer Michael Matthews views his abstract photographic art as something akin to the concept and nature of a musical score, with its graphic and symbolic representation of musical ideas. For him these two art forms are very closely linked, and his visual compositions emerge, like his musical ones, from the development of lines, shapes, densities and colors. Like Matthews, Texan artists Conan and Danville Chadbourne create works that are not directly about music, but which have parallels to the structure and aesthetics of musical forms. Danville Chadbourne presents paintings on wood that function as primal, esoteric diagrams of abstract forces and energies, often in concentric configurations around organic structures inherent in the wood or in graphic structures imposed by the artist. With a background in physics and math, Conan Chadbourne makes drawing-based works exploring the notion of emergent phenomena and the way complex forms develop from the combination and interaction of simpler elements. As with music, these images are built from layers of repeated patterns and textures which combine and merge, in harmonious or dissonant ways, into a complex, organic structure that emerges from the interaction between different parts.
